ALABAMA WAGON TRAIN'S
28th Anniversary

BACK

Why This Train?

Well to start with, this is a wagon train. NOT a trail ride. Starting on the 1st day when we break camp, we are on the move. We move our rigs daily to the next night's camp. AWT provides shuttle busses back to the old camp, where your team is waiting. Then we ride 18-23 miles every day. We also have to move trucks, trailers, water trucks, port-a-potties and a lot of support gear. It's a lot of work, a lot of fun, and a new adventure everyday. New places to see everyday, new friends to make everyday. Preparations begin months in advance. All participants, people, and livestock must be in shape for a 190 mile ride. All gear must be in top condition with spare pieces carried along. Service stations that carry mule gear are hard to find nowadays.

Services we provide on the train are food catering, tack shop, portable restrooms, sovereigns, video photographer, and a still picture photographer. Food is provided by Gravitt's Catering - serving 3 meals a day to you. Tack by Tim Hill - Tim usually brings 2 large tack rigs with him and can repair your gear also. You will also want to check our large selection of AWT souvenirs. We will also have a video photographer and a still picture photographer along with us everyday. Port-a-potties are in camp and with you at each break and lunch.

When you first arrive in camp look for the AWT registration trailer, this is where you will go to register and receive your ride info. Some camps you may park anywhere and others you will be parked by the camp director. BUT, PLEASE be sure to register. No one will be allowed to ride without an arm band.

Wake up is 4:30 am every morning. We begin moving rigs ahead at 6 am.  Ride leaves usually at 8 am. There will be morning breaks, afternoon breaks, and a lunch break. Port-a-potties are at each break and at lunch. Food venders will be at the lunch break. Arrival in camp is between 3-5 pm.

We have a kickoff supper and meeting for wagon trainers on the night before the ride leaves. We usually have 2-3 camp meetings, a few singing nights and a dance during the week. We also have an awards party and cookout in Montgomery on the last day.

For any problems you might incur in camp, go to the AWT registration trailer.  The BIG RED TRAILER with AWT logo on the sides. It will always be located in the center of AWT headquarters. We carry some vet supplies in case you need them. The registration trailer is always manned in camp for your needs.
Or you can always ask a person with an orange AWT vest on for help.  We're here to help and make your ride a pleasant experience.
